Quar Crusader Command and Specialists

Hey there! It's been a long time to wait for more Quar.

Of course it's a Quar themed post.  All the posts this year have been Quar themed so why stop now.  Hold up, let me check that.  Pause for internal analysis.....bzzz...Correction!  There was 1 post about Brigade Fire and Fury back in June and 1 post about Hobby Expenses back in Feb.  All the other 15 posts have been Quar related.

Strap yourself in for number 16.  It's gonna be great.  Promise.

Quar Crusader Command and Specialists

I've done a LOT of work on Quar terrain of late.  So naturally it's time to focus back on expanding the Quar armies and paint some miniatures.  Yuck, what an awful chore.  Wish I was rich enough to pay someone to do it for me.    I dug into my mini Quar mountain of plastic boxes and found..

The Command box lets you build 10 miniatures of command types: officers, musicians, standard bearers, and etc.  Since I already had officers, this box has limited utility for me.  I got it because it had this miniature of a Quar doing the pose from Say Anything.

you know, this one...

You remember the movie Say Anything right?
Or are you dead on the inside?

And don't tell me that you never bought a box of miniatures just because it had ONE you wanted.

other command types:

Standard Bearer and Squirrel Handler.

Quar use squirrels instead of carrier pigeons.  Apparently, there are no birds at all in the Quar world. I don't know why, maybe the creator was bit by a paraquet as a child. So, the Quar use these animals called Pyk-Pyk squirrels that are smarter than your average squirrel.  Whenever I think of smart squirrels I think of this movie:

Merlin as a greyish squirrel.

And what does it say about me that everything reminds me of something else I saw on TV as kid?

So I painted my squirrels grey but the image above is kinda blueish and then I thought why not paint them an odd color?  Maybe I'll repaint them and then I thought that's a lot of work just for a game token...

Right face!  March off to storage.

I didn't get much more use out of that box.  The good news is that all the Quar plastic boxes are compatible with all the other plastic boxes so unused bits can be saved and used later on in some kit bash experiment.

Crusader Specialists (because they're special)

I got more milage out of the specialist box.  With all the new tanks Tractors coming out in plastic kits these days, the higher ups decided that my Crusader forces needed some anti-tank Tractor weapons.

These dudes are armed with something like a piat called a torpedo.  To the Quar, torpedoes are newfangled technology.

Also out of the specialist box are these Crusader Pathfinders, which of course have special skirmish skills in the area of pathfinding....

differentiated from other Crusaders by having a bayonet
or by carrying a shotgun (SHOTGUN!)

And lastly, here are some additional Crusader Trench Raiders, for when only getting up close and very personal will do..

These guys re all spiked maces and single-handed short-range shotguns.

I do like this dude dual wielding.
I wonder if there is a move reference I could make?

FUN FACT: Dual wielding pistols is called Guns Akimbo.

another FUN FACT: This was a long post just to document that I painted a whooping 16 miniatures (not counting the squirrels).

Thanks for Reading.
Double Thanks for writing a comment.
Till Next Time.

  1. Nice painting (for sci-fi anteaters....☺). Nice movie references (Say Anything? Nah! Dead inside......☺)
Surely you must have enough Quar by now? (Sure! Enough toys......what am I thinking.....!☺)

    1. Thanks Neil. I actually am getting to the saturation point when it comes to Quar. Just how many factions do I need or want by now? But there is the mas battle game coming out.. 😁

  2. Although you weren't satisfied with the officers box, I do like the resulting minis that came out of it. Lots of fun character.

The Specialists mean you'll need to build more tractors tho. Lots more.

    1. Thanks Dai. I wouldn't say I was unsatisfied with the Command box as I knew it would be of little use when I bought it. Just wanted that one figure. lol
I've been hesitant on getting tractors. they are expensive (or maybe I just have sticker shock as I haven't bought a 28mm vehicle in forever and I'm like $50 for a little tank?) and to be honest I don't love them like most people do. They look weird to me. And tend not to fit in a game about 12 dudes having a fire fight.

  3. For someone who says they hate painting you do a great job Stew! The Quar have some fantastic minis, they are very very tempting!

The torpedo Quar look wonderful, although maybe a bit optimistic with the number of reloads they seem to be carrying. Love the musician, if I had to be a musician I would have to carry a record player too as I can't hold a note with either or both hands! The squirrels are suitably silly and I can imagine competing intelligence agencies leaving out nut piles to intercept messages. 😂😂

Guns Akimbo sounds like a great name for a rapper or gangster!

    1. Thanks Ben. The painting is really just average. And I never said that I HATE painting, only that I strongly dislike it and wouldn't mind if I never had to do it again.

maybe the torpedo quar need that many reloads bc the weapon is iffy. I dunno. 😁

  4. Some nice painting Stew, you must have a fair few freebie boxes from your role as Quar brand ambassador??

    1. Thanks Keith. Besides picking up one box at the convention, I haven't spent any of my newly awarded store credit for ambassador-ing yet.
I mean, I will. But being the ambassador I have some knowledge of what's in the pipeline to come out. So I'm waiting...😁

    1. Thanks Jonathan. Not really, just average painting. Must be the good lighting and the clean paper towel as the background. 😁

  7. That is quite a variety of Quar. While your miniatures remind you of movies mine often remind me of people I know or have met, which often shapes how I feel about them.

    1. Thanks Lawrence. Does that ever happen to you across genres? Like a Viking figure and an AWI figure will remind you of the same person? and you're all "you fail me in ALL the timelines!"

  8. Nice work Stew. You need some ammo carries for your torpedoes, makes them a bit more effective in the game

    1. Thanks Ed. Yeah, I really like the music figure. I bought a whole box just for him! 😁

  11. Great stuff as always.

And yeah, the Quar tanks are a bit pricy. I think they actually went UP in price going from resin to plastic... a few more options and better build experience, but still.

So what are you saving your quar-bucks for? Cadier? Partisans? inquiring minds want to know (well, I do at least)

    1. thanks David. Yes, the plastic tanks did go up some. As with everything else these days. 😒

what am I saving for? Fidwog specialists and command boxes to drop for one thing and then at the same time I'll pick up several items from the store. Yes for cavalry as well (you guessed it), maybe the new box set (though with that I'm fairly done with gathering factions as there aren't any more that are interesting to me), and some secret stuff 😁

  13. 16 Quar posts - but they’re all fun to read. I too have bought a box of troops just to get the one figure so no judgement here. Love the gramophone carrier. What’s he / she for? Transmitting loud propaganda / orders or just entertaining the officers with some sick beats?

    1. Thanks Mark. and I appreciate you reading them. 😁
Besides looking cool (and I'm gonna put him out on every battlefield whether he is being used 'officially' or not) he can rally a bunch of stunned soldiers by playing a patriotic song.

  14. Nicely done...love the gramophone.

I know you have a song for the ACW so now you need one for the Quar...

  16. Nothing worse than having to paint some minis! ;) Getting 16 done is very impressive, especially considering your disposition towards painting haha! They all look great and I like the inspiration from Hollywood too.
